Alf-Christian Schering studierte Diplom-Informatik mit der Spezialisierung Datenbank- und Informationssysteme, dem Nebenfach Wirtschaftswissenschaften und den inoffiziellen Interessengebieten Astronomie und Astrophysik, an der Universität Rostock. Seine professionellen Forschungsgebiete beinhalten Digitale Bibliotheken und Archive, XML- und Web-Technologien, Big Data, Hypergraph-Datenbanken und Anfrageoptimierung. Im Rahmen seines Promotionsvorhabens am Lehrstuhl für Datenbank- und Informationssysteme beschäftigt er sich mit dem Thema "Anfragesprachen und -optimierung für große Mengen hochgradig verknüpfter semistrukturierter Daten". Bereits im Jahre 2007 begann er gemeinsam mit Christoph Schmitt und Holger Meyer die Planung des Projekts "WossiDiA", in dem es um die Verwaltung und Verarbeitung genau solcher Daten geht. Herr Schering ist wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter am Institut für Informatik und an der Universitätsbibliothek in Rostock. Seit 2010 ist er verantwortlich für den Entwurf und die Entwicklung des digitalen Wossidlo Archivsystems im Rahmen des Pilotinfrastrukturprojekts "WossiDiA". Darüber hinaus ist er in verschiedene assoziierte Aktivitäten in den Bereichen Digitale Bibliotheken und eHumanities involviert.

Vita
Alf-Christian Schering graduated from the University of Rostock and holds a diploma in computer science, specializing in Database and Information Systems, minoring in Business Administration. He is personally interested in astronomy and astrophysics. His professional research areas include digital libraries and archives, XML and web technologies, big data, hypergraph databases, and query optimization. In the context of his PhD studies he does research around the topic "Query Languages and Optimization for Huge Amounts of Highly Interconnected Semistructured Data". Already in 2007, in collaboration with Holger Meyer and Christoph Schmitt, he began planning the joint project "WossiDiA", which is exactly about managing and efficiently processing such kind of data. Mr. Schering is a scientific associate and researcher at the Database and Information Systems Research Group at Computer Science Department and at the University Library in Rostock. Since 2010 he is responsible for design and development of the digital Wossidlo archive system "WossiDiA". Moreover, he is involved in various associated activities in the areas of digital libraries and eHumanities.
