Gleichwohl fehlt es an Erfahrungen mit der Massendigitalisierung umfangreicher Sammlungen und ihrer effektiven Nutzbarmachung für das Internet. Besondere Probleme birgt etwa die digitale Transformation ethnographischer handschriftlicher Sammlungen, die aus großräumlichen Erhebungen hervorgegangen sind. Hier sind kaum überschaubare Mengen, darunter vielfach zerfallsgefährdete Unikate, dauerhaft zu sichern, zu digitalisieren und über intelligente und effiziente Content-Management- und Retrievaltechniken nachhaltig zugänglich zu machen.<br /> <br /> Strategien der Digitalisierung und Online-Präsentation kultureller, insbesondere ethnographischer, Sammlungen sind daher vom 26. bis 28. September 2012 Thema eines internationalen Symposiums an der Universität Rostock. In dem DFG-Projekt „WossiDiA“ bereiten die Veranstalter zurzeit die Sammlung Richard Wossidlos (1859-1939) zur historischen Volkskultur und Mundart Mecklenburgs für die vollständige Präsentation im Internet auf. Sie besteht aus über zwei Millionen handschriftlichen Aufzeichnungen und Belegen in hochkomplexer Ablageordnung. Die Tagung dient dem Erfahrungsaustausch zwischen Projekten vergleichbarer oder ähnlicher Problematiken in den Disziplinen Kulturanthropologie, Ethnologie, Volkskunde, Sprachwissenschaft/ Dialektologie, Landesgeschichte und Informatik sowie in den Institutionen Archiv, Bibliothek und Museum.
